Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
