Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Continuous Crude Oil Supplies to India in Defiance of US Pressure
Amid a unambiguous statement to the West, Leader Vladimir Putin has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia stands ready to guarantee “unbroken” deliveries of energy resources to India. These remarks came when Putin and Modi met in Delhi and affirmed their relationship were “resilient to foreign coercion.”
A Signal Directed at the United States
The statement, made on Friday, was widely seen to be a direct challenge at the United States and its allies, who have sought to pressure New Delhi into scaling back its historical links with Moscow. The context is in response to earlier US actions, including additional import duties on India due to its buying of discounted Russian crude.
“Russia is a dependable source of energy resources and anything required for the advancement of India’s energy sector,” he remarked. “We are ready to keep ensuring the uninterrupted supply of fuel for the booming Indian economy.”
Modi, while not referencing crude explicitly, echoed the focus by stating that “energy security has been a strong and vital pillar of the bilateral cooperation.”
Defying American Pressure
Prior to the talks, in a TV appearance, Putin had challenged Washington's stance regarding India's energy purchases. The president questioned, “Should America can claim the privilege to buy our uranium, then why can't India claim the identical right?”
The visit marked his initial visit to India since the start of the war in Ukraine, and both sides engaged in a clear show to project that the bond between the two leaders was undisturbed.
A Warm Reception
