Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
