Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
