Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is exiting the directorate at the ChatGPT creator, just days after a series of emails between him and deceased financier the accused trafficker became public.

The economist stated in a release that he was "thankful for the chance to have contributed, enthusiastic about the promise of the company, and eagerly await observing their progress".

Summers, who formerly led the Ivy League institution, declared on recently that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his connections with the convicted sex offender.

The newly public emails demonstrated that the official corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein until the day before the financier's 2019 arrest for alleged sex trafficking of young people.

In a separate statement, the AI firm stated it accepted Summers' determination to depart.

Political Context

This announcement comes after the entire Congress of the US legislature voted on Tuesday to endorse a legislation that would compel the Department of Justice to disclose its files on Epstein.

The bill will afterward proceed to the desk of US President Donald Trump for approval. Trump has stated he plans to endorse the measure, after modifying his position on the matter following objections from his supporters.

A group of Epstein-connected emails made public by the Congressional committee recently included numerous prominent individuals in the financier's previous network, without suggesting any criminal activity by those individuals.

He led the university from 2001 to 2006 and is still a professor there. When stating his step-down from public roles previously on Monday, he said he would continue his educational duties.

Following the economist's declaration on Monday, the policy organization, a liberal think tank in Washington where he was a prominent member, confirmed that the economist was not affiliated with the organization.

Summers became part of the board of the technology firm, which makes ChatGPT, in 2023 - following a unsuccessful effort to replace its CEO the company leader.
