The site has been labeled an "ecological disaster".
A reporter inspected the scene and said the mound appeared to be "six meters tall at least".

Waste criminals have discarded a huge quantity of garbage in a field in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in full view" is approximately 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high.

The enormous heap has materialized in a plot of land alongside the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

A local MP brought up the problem in parliament, stating it was "risking an environmental emergency".

An environmental charity reported the illegal garbage pile was established approximately a recently by an organised crime group.

"This constitutes an ecological disaster unfolding in public view.

"Every day that goes by elevates the danger of toxic seepage entering the waterways, poisoning animals and endangering the health of the complete catchment.

"The Environment Agency must act promptly, not in the distant future, which is their usual reaction time."

A restriction order had been implemented by the environmental authorities.

It is hard to recognize any specific pieces of waste as it seems to have been pulverized with earth blended.

A portion of the garbage from the uppermost part of the pile has collapsed and is now merely five feet from the river.

The River Cherwell is a tributary of the River Thames, which means it runs through Oxford before connecting with the Thames.

In a declaration, the agency confirmed it was looking into the matter and appealed for information.

A newly released investigation found attempts to combat major illegal dumping have been "extremely neglected" despite the problem becoming bigger and more complex.

A parliamentary committee suggested an separate "thorough" investigation into how "widespread" environmental offenses is dealt with.
