The families of teenagers missing after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are confronting an excruciating wait for official news and appealing for clues about their children publicly.

The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified video show the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and injured another scores more.
